Prof. Dr. César Rodriguez-Emmenegger
Das Hauptaugenmerk des Forschungsprogramms der Rodriguez-Emmenegger Gruppe liegt auf der Entwicklung synthetischer und biohybrider adaptiver Schnittstellen, die mit der Umwelt interagieren können und sich an der Art und Weise orientieren, wie lebende Systeme interagieren und kommunizieren. Ihr übergeordnetes Ziel ist es, zu verstehen, wie man die allgemeine Abstoßung mit spezifischen mehrwertigen und kooperativen anziehenden Wechselwirkungen ausbalancieren kann, um Superselektivität an Grenzflächen zu entwickeln und dies auf den medizinischen Bereich zu übertragen. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, verschmelzen synthetische Polymer- und supramolekulare Chemie, physikalische Chemie, Biophysik und Ingenieurwissenschaften in einem hochgradig interdisziplinären Team. Im Besonderen sind die Wissenschaftler und Wissenschaftlerinnen an der Synthese von Makromolekülen mit präziser chemischer Zusammensetzung, Architektur und Topologie interessiert. Diese Makromoleküle werden zur Untersuchung und Entwicklung von Antifouling, antimikrobiellen Oberflächen, Beschichtungen, die mit Blut interagieren und die unkontrollierte Gerinnung modulieren sowie von aktiven synthetischen Zellen verwendet.

Resume
César wurde in Salto, im Norden von Uruguay, geboren. Nach dem Studium des Chemieingenieurwesens (2001-2006) an der Universidad de la Republica erhielt er ein UNESCO-IUPAC-Forschungspraktikum (2006-2007) am Institut für Makromolekulare Chemie in Prag, wo er sich für das Thema Polymere und Bioschnittstellen begeisterte. Dort forschte er in Biophysik, chemischer und makromolekularer Physik unter der Leitung von Dr. E. Brynda und Prof. A. Bologna-Alles (2007-2012) an optischen Biosensoren und Antifouling-Oberflächen und schloss hier seine Promotion ab. Nach einem Postdoc-Aufenthalt in der Gruppe von Prof. C. Barner-Kowollik (Alexander-von-Humboldt-Postdoc-Stipendium, 2012-2013) und Forschungsaufenthalten im Melville Laboratory in Cambridge (Prof. W.T.S. Huck, 2009), an der University of Pennsylvania (Prof. V. Percec, 2013 und 2015) und am Pasteur-Institut in Lille (Prof. Lafont, 2015) kehrte César nach Prag zurück, um eine unabhängige Gruppe zu gründen, die durch einen Junior Grant der GACR unterstützt wurde. Im Januar 2016 wechselte er mit seiner Gruppe ans DWI und erweiterte die Forschung um adaptive Schnittstellen und synthetische Zellen.
