Inclusive Culture
Inclusive culture describes an environment in which all people feel valued, respected, and included, regardless of their individual backgrounds. It is a central component of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), because without active inclusion, diversity remains ineffective. A culture of inclusion is demonstrated, among other things, by transparent decision-making processes, inclusive language, and respectful interaction at all levels.
It helps to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and creative research. In the long term, it strengthens both individual satisfaction and the scientific excellence of the organization.

Why – our strategy & goals
For us at the DWI, inclusive culture means actively incorporating different perspectives and becoming aware of structural barriers within the DWI. Among other things, we are working to strengthen a climate in which every person can express themselves freely.
This includes addressing different perspectives in the “Inclusive Culture” focus group and contributing through our work to ensuring that they are recognized and that potential barriers are continuously dismantled. Our goal is to create space for participation and involvement, to promote trust and psychological safety, and to foster a shared commitment to equal opportunities and justice.
What we are currently working on – measures
- Seminars and workshops on various topics, including unconscious bias and anti-discrimination work
- Training a diversity trainer for the institute
- Culture training
- Identifying employee needs and implementing them on an ongoing basis
- Developing guidelines
Feedback & Get Involved
Your perspective matters!
We want to actively shape our DEI initiatives together - because this is the only way we can truly create an inclusive culture at our institute. Your experiences, ideas and suggestions help us to create an inclusive space that truly thinks for everyone.
Whether you want to give feedback or contribute new ideas - we look forward to hearing from you! Write to us, get involved and become part of a community that not only recognizes diversity, but lives it.
This site is a living project - under construction, in motion, in dialog. We know that we can't represent everything perfectly and that we still have a lot to learn. That's why we see this content as a work in progress and are particularly happy to receive constructive feedback, new perspectives and honest feedback.
