Self regulated thrombus protection

Self-regulated Individualized Thromboprotection of Artificial Lung Assists

We aim at the development of a therapeutic system that aids at the re-establishment of hemostatic balance during artificial lung assist treatment without the need of additional anticoagulation. For this a cartridge consists of bio-functional microgels to accomplish the aforementioned task are being developed.

A hemofiltration cartridge will be designed with the function of regulating hemostasis. We will engineer the surface of microgel particles to release anticoagulant in a self-regulating manner and modulate the concentration of thrombin in blood, the enzyme that start coagulation. The system will be designed to prevent surface-induced coagulation at down-stream medical devices will still leaving physiological levels of thrombin to prevent hemorrhages.
