For spinal cord injuries, aligned nerve growth is necessary to bridge the injury. Implants are used to guide nerves but require a surgery to remove parts of the healthy tissue. To avoid this, we develop the Anisogel. It consists of rod-shaped magnetic microelements in a hydrogel-precursor solution. After injection, the elements align in a low magnetic field, while the surrounding precursor solution crosslinks enzymatically, fixing the aligned elements and inducing oriented cell and nerve growth.
