SONOPHARMAGEN
Remote controlling biological systems by sonopharmacology and sonogenetics
As part of an ERC Advanced Grant, Andreas Herrmann and his team will develop new control systems for the activation of active substances based on nucleic acids such as DNA in the "SONOPHARMAGEN" project, which can also be therapeutically active in deeper tissue layers of the body. To this end, the scientists will design certain DNA-based carrier systems in such a way that they can be loaded with bioactive substances and are sensitive to ultrasound. When exposed to ultrasound, these carriers release the loaded bioactive substances and the drugs are activated, for example to control cell functions.
