MiRAGE

Microgel Countercurrent Flow Reactor for Automated Glycan Synthesis with Immobilized Enzymes (031B1116B)

The MiRAGE project deals with the production of a microgel countercurrent flow reactor for automated glycan synthesis with immobilized enzymes. As part of the project, we work with various collaboration partners: The Laboratory for Biomaterials at RWTH Aachen University, the Institute for Functional Interfaces at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and glyXera GmbH. The interdisciplinary research deals with the immobilization of glycosyltransferases in biocompatible microgels, the construction of a membrane-based countercurrent reactor system with coupled product purification and concentration determination and the in silico modeling of immobilized enzyme cascades to optimize the processing of biological materials. In our working group we focus on the synthesis of suitable microgels via microfluidics and the immobilization of active enzymes. The characterization of the resulting microgel-enzyme hybrids plays a particularly important role here.
