Research interest
Yonca Kittel is working on the synthesis of multifunctional microgels for the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). The microgels are produced via microfluidics technique and subsequently post-functionalized with multiple corresponding bioactive molecules. The main topic of her research is the synthesis of different soft microgels and the characterization of their internal structure as well as mechanical properties, and their effect on functionality, such as diffusion of molecules through the network and binding to inflammed intestinal tissue.
