The Association of Friends of Deutsches Wollforschungsinstitut Aachen e. V. is a group of dedicated companies, organizations and private persons, which provides valuable support for science and research at DWI. In addition, the association supports students from RWTH Aachen University and talented young scientists who would like to supplement their education with scientific experience at DWI.

Being a member of the DWI – Leibniz-Institut für Interaktive Materialien e.V. (DWI – Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials), the association of friends actively helps to shape the future of the institute.

The Garg Foundation was established in 1994 by Dr. Om Prakash Garg in honour of his parents Basant Jumari Devi and Chakkanlal Garg and his supervisor Prof. Dr. Helmut Zahn. The foundation awards scholarships to (mainly) foreign students and PhD students as well as visiting scientists. Each year, the foundation supports a number of young, highly talented and dedicated students.

The Garg fellows belong to one of these four categories:

• Young scientists starting their PhD studies at the DWI, especially young scientists from countries outside Germany

• PhD students from the DWI doing parts of their PhD studies in another country

• Master students from countries other than Germany doing a research project at the DWI

• Master students from countries outside Germany or from other regions of Germany who are members of the Max Planck School, Physics, Chemistry and Construction of Life and work on a research project at the DWI
