Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim receives Grimme Award

Mai-Thi Nguyen-Kim was a PhD student in the team of Professor Böker at the DWI until March 2015. She not only holds a doctorate in chemistry, but has also built up a reputation on the video platform YouTube. For six years, Nguyen-Kim has been telling interesting and curious stories about science on her channel "maiLab" and has made it her main task to overturn stereotypes about scientists and "nerds" and to explain scientific correlations.

On this channel, she also uploads videos to explainthe Corona virus and the pandemic. For example, she highlights the different vaccines and their side effects there or explains herd immunity. Because of these videos, she was awarded the Grimme Prize for special journalistic achievements last Friday. In particular, she was honored "for her both scientifically highly competent and broadly effective communication of information on the subject of corona in her funk format "maiLab" as well as the moderation of the series "Quarks - Corona in 5 minutes."

The DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials congratulates on receiving the award and wishes all the best for the future.
