Materials for a low thrombogenic blood circulation (LTBC)

Immobilisation of anti-thrombogenic agents on membranes for dialysis applications

Hollow fiber membranes are used in dialysis systems to separate water and toxins from the blood. To prevent blood clotting and the associated blockage of the extracorporeal blood circulation system, heparin is injected, which can lead to long-term complications. In order to avoid this, new modifications of biomaterials are being researched, which will prevent the forming of thrombosis on the dialysis hollow fiber. New polymer coatings and polymers that allow anticoagulants to bind to materials are important approaches.
