Research interest
Niklas Herrmann’s research focuses on the antimicrobial functionalization of textiles. Antimicrobial textiles as e.g. wound dressings can counteract the spread of pathogenic bacteria and minimize the risk of wound infections, which becomes more and more important as drug-resistant germs like MRSA continue to spread. The antimicrobial building blocks (e.g. endolysins, chitosan) are immobilized on the textile surface by specifically developed anchor peptides to ensure wash resistance of the coating.
