Working together for more sustainability
At the DWI, dedicated colleagues from various departments are working on a comprehensive sustainability concept. Our Sustainability Working Group focuses on key areas of action such as energy, mobility, laboratory operations, IT and administration in order to develop and implement targeted measures for greater sustainability.
One important step: we have joined the LEAF program (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) - a proven initiative to reduce the environmental footprint of laboratories. In doing so, we are promoting a sustainable research environment and efficient use of resources.
The path to climate neutrality affects us all - in science, industry and everyday life. Extreme weather events such as heatwaves and floods show that we need to act quickly. Change starts on the ground: through sustainable research, energy-efficient processes and climate-friendly mobility. Many small changes can have a big impact - together we develop solutions that make a difference in the long term.
Our contribution to climate neutrality
Aachen has set itself an ambitious goal: climate neutrality by 2030. As part of the EU's “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities” mission, the city is taking on a pioneering role - and we at DWI are actively making our contribution.
The Alliance of Science Organizations, which includes the Leibniz Association with its 96 research institutions, is also pursuing a clear goal: climate neutrality in research and work processes by 2035. In this context, too, the DWI sees itself as a key player on the path to a more sustainable future.
