New Intern at the DWI
Bereket Hadish is currently doing his internship at the DWI. The 26-year-old fled from his home country Eritrea and has now been living in Germany for two years. With the initiative of the management of the DWI and Claudia Formen he had the opportunity to acquaint himself with different departments of the DWI for the past two month. “At the beginning of this year I got into contact with the RWTH Aachen and together we decided to offer an internship for refugees with an education in the field of chemistry. Then Mr Hadish summited his application“, says Formen. The employment agency in Düren supported Hadish in writing his application and has also provided a bus ticket for the ride from his hometown Aldenhoven to Aachen.
Hadish studied chemistry at the Eritrea Institute of Technology in Abardae and temporarily worked as a chemistry teacher. “During my course of studies I had very few possibilities to gain practical experiences”, says Hadish who has found working in the DWI laboratories during his internship very interesting. His journey will soon continue to Würzburg. There, with the job reference of Claudia Formen, he has applied for an apprenticeship as laboratory assistant at the medical care center. First he will complete a probationary internship. In Würzburg he will also meet his brother. “The internship with Mr Hadish has worked out so well, that we decided to offer more internships for refugees at the DWI. We have already invited a chemist from Syria for a job interview”, says Formen. “Also, there is a good chance that we will be able to offer an apprenticeship for a laboratory assistant in cooperation with the RWTH Aachen as of next year.
