Leibniz Trainee Award for DWI Lab Technician Justin Gottfried
The Leibniz Association has awarded its 2022 Trainee Prize to a total of three chemistry laboratory technicians. Among them is Justin Gottfried from the DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials in Aachen. The award was given to trainees who, in addition to very good technical performance and final examinations, showed exceptional commitment beyond their training.
Justin Gottfried (21) was trained as a chemical laboratory assistant at the DWI - Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials in Aachen. During his training, he was assigned project-specific tasks to work on independently in collaboration with doctoral students, for example, in the large-scale industrial production of polymer pills for euro coins using an injection molding machine, in the development of bio-based flame retardants, or in the development and production of nanofiltration hollow fiber membranes. In addition to his training, Justin Gottfried completed several interdisciplinary internships in cooperation with RWTH Aachen University at the Chair of Laser Technology and the Clinic for Nuclear Medicine/Radiochemistry. During his training, Justin Gottfried was involved in learning groups in which he passed on his expertise to trainees of different years. In the area of promoting young talent at the DWI, he was involved in student internships and Boys and Girls Days at the institute, as well as being a trainee ambassador in cooperation with the Aachen Chamber of Industry and Commerce. Following his education, RWTH offered him an employment contract as a chemical laboratory technician at "Aachener Verfahrenstechnik".
