μ-Gel-functionalized biomaterials with optimized pH-degradation

Polylactide (PLA) is biodegradable polymer, but its decomposition releases acidic by-products that cause a localized lowering of the body's pH. This leads to inflammatory reactions up to total tissue destruction. Therefore, the aim of this project is to produce new biodegradable PLA materials with self-regulating pH-degradation behaviour by incorporation of stimuli-responsive μ-Gels into fibers and 3D printed objects.
