Isabel Sommerfeld, M.Sc.
Isabel Sommerfeld's research focuses on the synthesis and characterization of enzyme-regulated, self-regenerating microgels and adaptive hydrogel coatings. For this purpose, specific enzymes are immobilized into microgels using various methods, so that the addition of an enzyme substrate enables the formation of a polysaccharide shell. If the shell is sufficiently thick, it can no longer grow because the diffusion of the enzyme substrate to the enzyme is prevented. If the shell is damaged, the diffusion is reactivated and the shell is regenerated.
